Adrien Ball is a Senior Data Scientist who is currently building an AI-powered voice assistant at Snips. Trained as an Applied Mathematics Engineer, he has a background in both machine learning systems and software engineering.
During the past year, he has built and overviewed the NLU component that powers Snips. The purpose of this component is to perform intent extraction, slot filling and an additional layer of dialog management, and because Snips is running offline, it needed to satisfy the constraints of embedded devices. In this context, Adrien's work has been to develop a robust machine-learning based NLU system which training happens on the server, and inference runs locally.
